Xiaomi has unveiled the new Redmi A4 smartphone at IMC 2024, which will be its first 5G phone priced under Rs 10,000. For the smartphone, Xiaomi has partnered with Qualcomm for the new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chip that powers the smartphone. Xiaomi India president Muralikrishnan B, said at the phone’s unveiling that the commercial launch of the phone will take place “later this year”.
We weren’t able to get our hands on the device but a look at the phone from a distance reveals it will feature a large, approximately 6.7-inch flat display. It has beautifully finished flat corners with rounded edges and a round camera module at the back, which features a dual camera setup and a 50-megapixel primary sensor. That may also mean the highest pixel camera under Rs 10,000.
We also notice that the phone features a 3.5mm jack in the top edge. At the demo, two colours of the phone were displayed, a black and a silver.
This big partnership comes as Xiaomi completes 10 years of its business in India. In these 10 years, Xiaomi India president says the company has shipped 25 crore smartphones in the Indian market. Muralikrishnan says, in this time, 35 crore other devices have been shipped.
Xiaomi also announced its goal for the next 10 years. The president announced the aim to ship 70 crore devices in the next decade.
The initiative is part of the “5G for all” initiative. This collaboration is significant as it combines Snapdragon’s renowned chipset technology with Xiaomi’s focus on affordable, high-quality devices.
Integrating Snapdragon chipsets into Xiaomi’s budget offerings could bring enhanced performance, efficiency, and 5G connectivity to a wider audience. This is a strategic move, as it aligns with India’s growing demand for capable yet affordable smartphones, making advanced features accessible to more users.
With Snapdragon’s advanced AI capabilities and Xiaomi’s market reach, this new device has the potential to set new benchmarks in the budget category.
